i look at the people around me and i see a myraid of different preoccupations and concerns. life is perfect for no one. change, be it positive or negative, is the only constant.
my teacher-colleagues worry about finishing the syllabus, having remedials, CCAs, school events, staff room politics, setting test and exam papers, whether their students will do well. it's a good thing that the performance bonus hoohah is over and done with.
my students, who had only just stepped into the teenage threshold, upset themselves with family issues, parent issues, sibling issues (yes all these three are different.), exam issues, friendship issues, teacher issues, class issues, CCA issues, relationship issues, boy/girl issues, crush issues, gang issues, part-time work issues, ...
you get the idea.
my recently-graduated poly friends concern themselves with kick-starting their careers, unwinding overseas, mulling over which University offer to accept. this of course applies to the fairer sex. the not-so-fair group have no concerns- they are enlisting with Mindef. all ponder over singlehood and love.
my undergraduate friends are mugging and mugging and mugging. NUS, NTU, SIM, they are all at it. (err i have no friend in SMU. i'm waiting for Ben to get there. that's if NUS Bizad doesn't offer him a place.) all the best, my dears. and let's all cross our fingers and hope that i have the chance to call you senior. (those in NUS and SIM, sorry no chance. cos I DIDN'T APPLY to your institutions.)
my NSF brothers, some of you are officers now, some waiting to be commisioned, some are simply men, some clerks. most of you have much to complain, from BMT to the drills to the food to your Sirs to which camp you're posted to the people that sabotage you to overseas exercise and everything else. oh well. whether you have complaints or not, your NS years will leave an impact on your lives. for now, the girls rejoice (we try to) for you have one saving grace behind all that immaturity- your good bodies. (think Silvest! gold frog.)
my jc friends who retook the A Levels last year are going through what they had already gone through this time last year. but with a difference. those who did better this time round had much to look forward to. been there, done that, again, but this time, victors all. i salute you for your courage.
it's been a long entry. i shan't continue. writer's tantrum. please forgive.
final note before i leave.
what are my concerns?
i know them, but it's time to structure them.
how about you?
with what thoughts do you occupy yourself?
